B Meets

Developmental Meets

CCH participates in a Developmental or “B” league made up of 5 teams from the Fairfax Area. Developmental Meets take place on Monday evenings and include all individual Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly events. In addition, races for 6 & Unders, 8 & Under Fly, and the 100m Individual Medley (IM) are included. Relays are not included at Monday night meets. The B League holds it own B Relay Carnival during the season.

Kickboard races are not included in Developmental Meets. Special “lollipop” meets may be conducted 1 or more times throughout the season at the discretion of the coaches.

Developmental meets are not scored but times count for placement in A meets. Events are run in the same order as the Saturday meets; however, many events have more than 1 heat. Ribbons are given out to 1st -6th place finishers overall. Swimmers who don't place 1st -6th will receive participation ribbons.

The purpose of the Developmental League is to give swimmers who do not typically qualify for Saturday meets the chance to swim in a competitive but fun environment. All swimmers are welcome to compete in the Developmental meets, and will be allowed to swim two events, plus the IM if they are legal in all 4 strokes. True “A” level swimmers* (e.g., swimmers who regularly swim two events and generally place in the “A” meets) will be encouraged by coaches to swim other events that are not typically swam at A meets, but these swimmers will not be restricted in their choice of events. Specifically, 8 & Unders may swim 2 events plus 8 & Under fly and/or 10 & Unders may swim 2 events plus either fly or IM (for a total of 3).

However, swimmers that placed in 1, 2 or 3rd place at the previous A Meet for a certain event and choose to swim the same event at the B Meet 2 days later will be "time-only." Therefore, there may be “Time Only” heats for swimmers. Swimmers should discuss event selections with coaches if unsure what to swim. Lastly, B meet reps and coaches will continue to strongly encourage swimmers to swim their non-dominant events at B Meets as a way to continue to improve on all strokes, and creates more depth across the entire team.

We strongly encourage 8&Under swimmers to get a coaches' approval before signing up for breaststroke or butterfly at a Monday night meet

Developmental Meet Guidelines

  1. In the spirit of Developmental Meet swimmer development and in the interest of running efficient meets:
    • The Individual Medley (“IM”) event will be run at the end of the meet. (Thus, the order of stroke events for the meets will be freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and IM.)
    • Officials will be assigned to both ends of the pool in order to simplify and shorten the disqualification process during a meet. The home team will supply the referee and the away team will supply the chief judge. (Our goal at every meet is to have a referee and a chief judge on duty.) If at all possible, the away team will bring their starter device so there can be one on each end of the pool.
    • We suggest that breaststroke and butterfly not be swum in a meet until the team coaches have determined that the swimmer has a reasonable chance to swim a legal stroke and not be disqualified.
  2. Except as noted in this document (or as agreed to by the team representatives during the season), rules will be the same as those established for NVSL dual meets.
  3. Swimmers may participate in a maximum of two strokes plus the Individual Medley, except as agreed in advance by the team representatives. Specifically, 8 & Unders may swim 2 events plus 8 & Under fly and/or 10 & Unders may swim 2 events plus either fly or IM (for a total of 3).
  4. Place ribbons will be awarded for overall places 1 through 6. These ribbons will be supplied by the pool hosting the meet. The number of places announced is at the discretion of the hosting pool. Teams may choose to provide participation ribbons to their swimmers and the team is responsible for providing the ribbons.
  5. Heat winner ribbons will be awarded for the first place finisher in each heat for swimmers 10 and under. The ribbons will be awarded to the swimmer immediately on completion of the heat, even if a swimmer has disqualified. These ribbons will be supplied by the host pool. (The decision to award heat winner ribbons is at the discretion of the home pool.)
  6. Delays, postponements, or cancellations for weather will be the discretion of the host pool and its pool management staff.
  7. The meet warm-up times will be as follows: 1) the home team warms up from 5:15-5:30PM, and 2) the away team warms up from 5:30-5:45PM.
  8. The final swimmer placement decisions made using these Developmental Meet guidelines will be at the discretion of the coaches and/or team representatives.

*True A swimmers are those who regularly swim 2 events and generally place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in Saturday meets
